Exam procedure

All exams are conducted in the buildings of the Faculty of Military Science and Officer Training of National University of Public Service (address: 9-11 Hungária körút, Budapest, 1101).

Before the start of each exam candidates have to identify themselves with a valid photo ID (passport, national identity card or driving licence).

 

Listening exams

Listening exams are always held on the same day as the speaking exams. The duration of the listening exam at STANAG level 1 is approximately 20-25 minutes, at STANAG level 2 the exam is approximately 25-30 minutes and at STANAG level 3 it is approximately 30-35 minutes.

Listening exams are held in the accredited language labs of the Language Testing Centre. At each level candidates listen to the exam material twice through headphones. The audio material contains the exam tasks, all the instructions and pauses between the tasks.

At the beginning of the listening exam candidates are informed about the exam rules and check their headphones. After that they receive the exam tasks in envelopes. In each envelope there is a Personal Information Sheet, an Answer Sheet and an Exam Booklet. Before the exam starts, candidates do the necessary administration on the Personal Information Sheets.

During the exam candidates can take notes in the Exam Booklet, but at the end of the exam they have to copy their final answers onto the Answer Sheets. The final answers have to be written in ink.

At the end of the exam candidates place the Personal Information Sheets, the Exam Booklets and the Answer Sheets into the envelope and hand them over to the invigilators. Candidates are not allowed to take any part of the exam material out of the exam room.

 

Speaking examinations

Speaking exams are always held on the day of the listening exams. At the beginning of the speaking exams the examiners inform the candidates about the exam procedure.

The exam starts with a short warm-up and continues with the exam tasks. The board of examiners is made up of 2 examiners, except for STANAG level 3, where 3 examiners are present at the exam. The duration of the speaking exam is approximately 10-12 minutes at STANAG level 1, approximately 15-16 minutes at STANAG level 2 and approximately 20 minutes at STANAG level 3.

Speaking exams are recorded provided candidates agree to it when they register for the exam. If candidates do not agree to their exams being recorded, their exams are conducted in front of 3 examiners at level 1 and level 2 and in front of 4 examiners at level 3.

After the speaking exam, examiners hang the Provisional Exam Result Sheets containing the candidates’ results on the door of the exam room.

 

Reading examinations

Reading and writing exams are always held on the same day. The duration of the reading exam at STANAG level 1 is 80 minutes, at STANAG level 2 and 3 is 90 minutes.

At the beginning of the exams candidates are informed about the exam rules. After that they receive the exam tasks in envelopes. In the envelopes candidates can find a Personal Information Sheet, a Text Booklet with the texts, a Task Booklet with the tasks and an Answer Sheet. Before the exam candidates do the necessary administration.

During the exam candidates are not allowed to use dictionaries. At the end of the exam candidates have to copy their answers onto their Answer Sheets in ink.

At the end of the exam candidates place all the exam material into the envelopes and hand them over to the invigilators.

Candidates are not allowed to take any part of the exam material out of the exam room.

 

Writing examinations

Reading and writing examinations of a certain level are held on the same day. The reading exam is followed by the writing exam after a short break. The duration of the writing exam at STANAG level 1 is 80 minutes, at STANAG level 2 and 3 is 90 minutes.

At the beginning of the exams candidates are informed about the exam rules. After that they receive the exam tasks in envelopes. In the envelopes candidates can find a Personal Information Sheet and an Answer Sheet with 2 writing tasks. Before the exam candidates do the necessary administration.

During the exam candidates can write a draft copy, but their final answers should be on their Answer Sheets. Candidates have to write their tests in ink. No dictionaries can be used in the exam.

At the end of the exam candidates place the Personal Information Sheets and the Answer Sheets along with their draft copies into the envelope and hand them over to the invigilators.

Candidates are not allowed to take any part of the exam material out of the exam room.
